Method
Based on the nature of the research questions, this investigation was done using an embedded mixed methods approach (Teddlie & Tashakkori, 2009). In embedded mixed designs, the researcher embeds qualitative data within a quantitative investigation. As Teddlie and Tasshakori (2009) note, “[Mixed-methods] research provides better (stronger) inferences [and] provides the opportunity for a greater assortment of divergent views” (p.33). The opportunity for divergent views and multiple realities is a particularly important aspect of why this study was conducted using a mixed-methods approach, as it aligns with Labbo and Reinking’s (1999) multiple reality theoretical framework for researching technology and literacy.
